Getting there

I broke 80,000 words on my novel today. I’ve been making progress lately after a long time of being unable to by refusing to allow myself to copyedit before 6 a.m.–that time is mine to write. I’m really happy to be getting words down on paper, however slowly.

I can tell I’ve taken too long to get through this book, though, because I no longer want my characters to do what I decided they’d do two years ago–I’ve changed too much in that time. Nonetheless, they’re going to stick to the script until I’ve finished the draft.

I’m really anxious for the day I have the rough done and can call it editing from there forward. :-)

Goodness. I refuse to allow myself to wake up before 6 a.m.

Congratulations on such great progress! Keep it up. So, about how far along in your story do you figure those 80K words put you?

Well, I don’t want to jinx myself, but I think I’ll be able to call it a rough within 10K more words.

That doesn’t mean that all the writing will be done, really, because I have about a hundred editorial notes to myself throughout this manuscript: “Need more description of this place,” “Need an earlier scene with these characters to make this one more poignant,” “Need an earlier involvement to make this scene more believable,” and so on. But within 10,000 more words I should be able to have the entire story arc down. :-)

Yeah, I’m a morning person and a workaholic to boot…
