Kids and Work
Published by Deanna Hoak July 26th, 2005 in blogI finally finished up a copyediting project yesterday that should have taken me a week and instead took me more than three, because I have the kids home for the summer. I’m just glad I knew better than to overload myself, because I had it as my sole project and was still able to make the deadline on it. (I’ve been freelancing for more than a decade now and have never missed a deadline–I’m completely anal about the damn things.)
Kids are wonderful and glorious and cute and all that, but it sure is hard to get work done when they’re underfoot.

I'm a freelance copyeditor specializing in fantasy and science fiction. SF/F novels I have copyedited have been finalists for (and have sometimes won) the Hugo, Nebula, Arthur C. Clarke, Golden Spur, John W. Campbell Memorial, Quill, Locus, Philip K. Dick, British Science Fiction, British Fantasy, and World Fantasy awards. In 2007 I was short-listed for a World Fantasy Award for my copyediting.
