To Make My Month…

I had something happen the other day that I can’t believe I forgot to blog about! I got carded! It was a young waitress, and she was serious! Now for all you sweet young things out there this is no big deal, I’m sure, but I am 39. I was deliriously happy.

We were out for seafood, and when the waitress came by I said, “Could I get a Corona, please?”

She shot me an apologetic look and said, “Sure, but…could I have some ID?”

She must have taken my three-second gape of astonishment for anger, because then she started apologizing in earnest: “I’m really sorry, but–”

“No no no!” I managed. “No! That’s great!” By now a grin was seeping into my gape, getting wider by the second, and I glanced around knowing full well I hadn’t brought my purse in with me. “I–I don’t have it! Oh! I’m getting carded! Oh my god!! I can’t get a beer because I don’t have my ID!” I all but clapped my hands over my mouth in joy. “I guess…I guess I’ll just have a Sprite!”

The waitress had been looking increasingly uncertain. “Um…you know what?” she said finally. “That’s okay. You want lime with that beer?”

I was crushed. :-)

But you see, kids, that’s how you do it when you don’t have proper ID. Either that or all the grinning showed up my crow’s-feet. :-D

Yeah, I got carded for the first and only time just before my 30th birthday - I giggled like a lunatic and the bouncers let me in.

    Too funny!

God, I don’t recall ever being carded BEFORE I was 21, so I am REALLY envious!

Isn’t that the most wonderful feeling? To know that you look far younger than you are? I always tip hugely to anyone who cards me. :-)

(BTW, I’d have said you were early-30s, if that….)

    LOL!

My grandmother, at 91, still chortles over the fact that she got carded the night I was born. (She was 36. I remember her fortieth b-day.)

    That’s lovely!

    Here’s to more “cardings”.

Ha! I’m glad I’m not the only one who is so impressed with a carding that she shares it on LJ! *raises Corona of solidarity*

Yeah, I used to hate it when I got carded, but when it happened to me when I was 40, I was thrilled. :-)

HAH! I totally used to card people and think they might be underaged (or at least under 25; I still had to card that age). Some people are so hard to tell! (Like you!)

Completely off-topic, but I hope you don’t mind that I’ve friended you?
