*sigh*
Published by Deanna Hoak December 21st, 2005 in blogI turned down the copyedit of a book by a very Big Name Author today (a non-SF/F one). I would love to put him on my resume, and the pay was great, but it was a rush job over the holidays. I had intentionally kept my schedule free this week so that I could spend time with family and work on my own writing.
I hate turning down work I’d love to take, though. :-(

I'm a freelance copyeditor specializing in fantasy and science fiction. SF/F novels I have copyedited have been finalists for (and have sometimes won) the Hugo, Nebula, Arthur C. Clarke, Golden Spur, John W. Campbell Memorial, Quill, Locus, Philip K. Dick, British Science Fiction, British Fantasy, and World Fantasy awards. In 2007 I was short-listed for a World Fantasy Award for my copyediting.

Too bad, but at least you’re in a position where you feel you can turn down the work.
Hm! I know I replied to this the other day, and my reply isn’t here! :-/
Anyway…yes, I’m lucky to be in this position. It keeps me from overloading myself, too.
