Workspace
Published by Deanna Hoak January 5th, 2006 in writingI noticed from Toby Buckell’s blog that people are posting pictures of their workspaces, and I thought I’d join in.
My workspace is in the “eat-in” area of my kitchen. I like the location because I can see most of the house from here, and I have a gorgeous view of the backyard. (The backyard sold me on this house. I love my backyard.)
Here’s the actual workspace (taken while I was standing on the kitchen counter ;-)):
The windows to the right of the desk look out on the back porch and backyard, and the one to the left looks onto the front living room and the front door. I use the Levenger desks for editing. (I actually don’t recommend the one I have there to the left–it drives me crazy.)
The kitchen is directly behind my chair, and the living room with the TV is behind and to my right. I’m readily accessible to the kids (I’ve never had a problem blocking noise), and I can keep an eye on them as well. It works well for me!
And here’s my view of the backyard (seen through the back porch screen):
It’s a light-filled workspace, and I enjoy it.

There are times when I miss Florida…
Lovely home you have.
Wow. It’s like looking out into a little tropical greenhouse. With a pool!
Speaking of pictures, there’s one of you at the World Fantasy Awards Banquet in the centerfold of the January Locus.
Oh, really? How funny. I wish my subscription hadn’t expired. :-( I may have to renew it to see. :)
Did the pic come out okay? I don’t have some dorky expression on my face or something? :-)
Thank you. I do love it here, though hurricane season is a stress….
Very nice yard indeed!
Good heavens! I look at the pic of your backyard and half expect Elmore Leonard to emerge wrasslin’ a gator and dropping off a ms.
You have a beautiful workspace, and I am quite envious. I also wish I could look that good when working. I just tend to look stressed and blotchy. Except for when I pose for this kinda thing. *grins*
Stunning! I love angled walls (well, perhaps I should say ‘non-rectangular rooms’) with windows.
That workroom is really neat! A very unusual design. Is there any history to it (such as the squirrel access port in our closet, or the way the downstairs bathroom looks out into the basement access stairs), or did it come with the house?
Nice pictures! And you look very pretty there. :)
No, it was already here. It’s actually the eat-in area of my kitchen, where a small dining table would usually go. :)
Thank you! *hugs*
Wow. Your tidiness shames me. :)
I’ll have to post a picture of my workspace soon so you can see what I mean…
it is beautiful — where in Florida are you?
I’ll send you a copy of the picture.
