Best Frosting Recipe Evar

Since I’ve been eating frosting with a spoon for the last several minutes (Blaine iced her own cake, and there was some left over, and it’s so tempting, sitting there in the bowl), I thought I’d share my favorite frosting recipe.

Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting

1 8 oz. package of cream cheese, softened
1 stick of butter, softened
1 tsp vanilla
5 cups powdered sugar
5 to 6 Tbsp. cream
1 cup cocoa

Beat the cream cheese and butter together, then add the vanilla and beat some more. Alternate beating in the dry ingredients a bit at a time with the cream until you’ve used all the cocoa and gotten the consistency you desire. (I actually never measure the powdered sugar and doubt I use 5 cups, as I like the icing a bit fluffy.)

If you pair this with a Black Magic Cake (which is amazingly moist due to the coffee), the result will cause most chocolate lovers to have to fight closing their eyes in bliss while consuming.

Oh my lord! You hit me at just the right time. I need to make this frosting because frosting is the whole reason for making cake. I eat cake because I can’t get away with just eating the frosting.

Okay, that’s a great recipe. However, if you take the frosting recipe on the back of the Hershey’s Cocoa tin, and substitute dark-brewed black coffee for milk, you have yet another killer frosting recipe!!!!

I found your site through ’s ‘blog..

I tried your recipe today… and you’re right, it is the best frosting EVAR… but, by pairing it with that particular cake, I’m pretty sure you’re breaking several decency laws.

Don’t know for certain, as I haven’t tasted the finished product yet, but I’m pretty sure. ;)

LOL! Did you bake that cake, too, or are you trying it with another one?

    It *is* yummy….

Yeah, I made it with the black magic cake…

I’m trying to be good and wait ’til after dinner to get into it, though. (even bought vanilla icecream to go with. I’m sure I’m going to hell for this.) ;D

So what did you think? :-)

It’s wonderful… This is definitely a cake to put chocoholics in a coma…

For me though, it’s a bit much. *Has to eat it in very small portions*

(this can be a good thing though… it means I won’t be inhaling the entire cake in one sitting) ;)

    Thanks again for the recipes!

You’re welcome! I’m glad you like it, even if it is a bit on the rich side for you. :)

Mm. I’ll have to try that one sometime. :)

Did you make it? Yummy, just like I said? :)

I made this for Easter. OMG…amazing. I made it with a Boiling Water Chocolate Cake and decreased the cocoa in the frosting a little since I was using a really rich cocoa. Better than the stuff you buy. I will never use another choc frosting recipe.
