Blaine’s Batgirl

Blaine and I spent quite a while clicking through the Batgirl pics this morning. What a fun meme! I can’t draw worth anything, myself, but Blaine (who just turned seven and has “author and illustrator” in her list of what she wants to be when she grows up–currently somewhere after “baker”) was inspired to create her own Batgirl after about twenty clicks.

Here’s hers:

Her Batgirl has a bat belly ring, though it’s hard to tell from the scan. I’ll pass along any compliments to Blaine. :-)

The gigantic list of other people’s Batgirl pictures can be found here.

My favorite (other than Blaine’s, of course!) of the ones I clicked on was here. How do people do that–make something that shows so much, with just some strokes and color? I’m very jealous of the ability.

If you’d told me this was by an adult illustrator, I would’ve believed you. It’s surprisingly sophisticated for someone so young. And I’ve studied a lot of art history, too…

She really does have a talent at it, doesn’t she? I don’t really think there’s much the kid can’t do. :-)

And she loved that compliment. It put a very sweet smile on her face. :)
