CafePress and Fbod Studios

Someone sent me this link to a mousepad with “Yoga for Copyeditors” on it. I haven’t tried yoga–unicycling and weight machines seem to treat me fine–but it’s cute nonetheless.
While I’m giving CafePress shout-outs, though, I’d love to direct you to my friend Lisa’s Fbod Studios page. She’s got some great T-shirts for writers (I’m rather [...]

Okay. Here’s what I want to know about Harlan’s inappropriateness: Why didn’t any of us do anything in that moment? I’m asking sincerely, because I get furious with myself, after the fact, for actions I fail to take. When the groping happened, I was horrified; I leaned over and asked the person next to me [...]

WorldCon, updated

I’m still logy from the con. After I posted my con report yesterday, it occurred to me that I left out John Joseph Adams and David Barr Kirtley, with whom I had several breakfasts, and didn’t mention once the person I spent the most time with, who was Chris Roberson. He held court in the [...]

WorldCon

WorldCon was an awesome time. The hotels and convention center were all conveniently close, and every room on the party floor of the main hotel opened onto a huge outdoor deck that made the room parties more tolerable than at any other con I’ve attended. (The floor was unfortunately a maze, though, that made particular [...]

Off to WorldCon today!

I’m off to WorldCon today and should be in to LA around 4. I may not have e-mail access until I get back, and any new posters to the blog will probably not see their posts show up until then. (I moderate the first post by new users to prevent spam.)
My SF/F-loving nephew, Zach, whom [...]

Longtime readers of this blog will recall me talking about the utterly priceless hardcover version of the hideously awful Atlanta Nights–an intentionally bad book written by SF pros to test PublishAmerica’s claim that they actually screen the books they accept. (I think anyone who reads the book will agree that they do not.)

Well, it’s [...]

Writing compliments

Doug Cohen at Realms of Fantasy sent me a nice note today, saying that he was passing a story of mine along to Shawna. He said he figured out the ending halfway through, which was not good, but then added:
But the writing and characterizations are so solid, and you do an excellent job in capturing [...]

Hotties and feminism

I follow the immensely interesting GalleyCat, so I’ve been keeping up with the “Hotties of Publishing” contest. I think it’s cute and harmless, and I don’t think there’s a damn thing wrong with celebrating attractiveness in a field where braininess is already celebrated every day. (And incidentally, the contest isn’t just about looks; everyone who [...]

WorldCon

If any of you would like my cell phone number to keep in touch during WorldCon, drop me a line.
And do any of you have any notion why I got twenty new friend requests in the space of a few hours on my MySpace account yesterday? I’m just curious, since it’s highly unusual. :-)

Barnyard

We took the kids to see Barnyard this afternoon. Evan has never laughed so hard at any show or movie ever: plenty of slapstick humor there.
I was a little perplexed, though–good Texan country girl that I am–as to why all the obviously male cattle were being called “cows” and had obvious udders (that gave milk!!) [...]
