WorldCon
Published by Deanna Hoak August 18th, 2006 in blogIf any of you would like my cell phone number to keep in touch during WorldCon, drop me a line.
And do any of you have any notion why I got twenty new friend requests in the space of a few hours on my MySpace account yesterday? I’m just curious, since it’s highly unusual. :-)

I'm a freelance copyeditor specializing in fantasy and science fiction. SF/F novels I have copyedited have been finalists for (and have sometimes won) the Hugo, Nebula, Arthur C. In 2007 I was short-listed for a World Fantasy Award for my copyediting.

I couldn’t tell you why it happens. Some sort of herd sensibility thing. For me, It’s only if someone actually wanders across me. This reminded me that I haven’t got around to adding you or Charlie, so I’ve entered requests to do just that.
Have fun at Worldcon!
Most of them are probably spam/porn accounts, or someone went through and spammed a bunch of bands. Those are two usual reasons.
Oh, and I friended you just now.
Steve: I was wondering who that was! :-) I’ll friend you back.
Victor: Most of them were writers of one stripe or another. *shrug* I’ve friended you back too. :-)
Awesome. In that case, you got linked to from a group or somesuch, so everybody found you at the same time.
Well, I got one friend request yesterday. I think it was through you.
There was also an announcement this morning that there is a virus running on/through? myspace. It said something about friending in the blurb that I ignored.
No, but if you’re near the bar Friday (or Saturday) night, make an appearance and I’ll pour you a single malt.
(what can I say, it’s what I do.)
Keep an eye out for a wandering Aussie in an Andromeda Spaceways shirt at Worldcon. (Edwina Harvey, mentioned before.)
Re: myspace … either your pic or the ‘copyeditor’ in your display name could have caught their eye. Imagine if someone put ‘Literary Agent’ or ‘Film Producer’ - they’d be swamped in minutes.
Oh, I know exactly why you got 20 MySpace friend requests, Deanna. I just blast-added about 500 friends in the past 2-3 days, and you’re on my top 12 friends list. Funny that this little side effect didn’t really occur to me…
And ooh! ooh! I want your cell phone number so we can catch up at WorldCon. I’m going to be busy as hell, but I’m sure I must owe you a beer or two, and I am a man who likes to repay his debts. :-)
Dave: I see. :-) I thought there had to be some explanation….
Tom: I don’t know what you look like! If you spot me, be sure to flag me down to come have a drink. :-)
