Published by Deanna Hoak September 19th, 2006 in blogI discovered today that one of my posts–“Proofreading vs. Copyediting”–is required reading for a Michigan State University Professional Writing course.
That feels strange. :-)

I'm a freelance copyeditor specializing in fantasy and science fiction. SF/F novels I have copyedited have been finalists for (and have sometimes won) the Hugo, Nebula, Arthur C. Clarke, Golden Spur, John W. Campbell Memorial, Quill, Locus, Philip K. Dick, British Science Fiction, British Fantasy, and World Fantasy awards. In 2007 I was short-listed for a World Fantasy Award for my copyediting.

That is a weird feeling. I’ve had one of my reviews reprinting in the required reading packet for an English class at Ohio State University and they contacted me for permission so they could get the copies made. I gave it, of course, but can’t help thinking they were holding it up as an example of how not to write a review. I know it was included for at least three semesters.
Congratulations.
Unfortunately, the link appears to be broken. Just so you know!
Steven: Thanks!
Becca: Thanks for the warning. It was a problem with my server, I think. Didn’t last too long. :-)
Congratulations! (It happened to me three years ago–and it *still* feels bizarre).
