Updating while I have power…

We lost power for half an hour a bit ago, so I thought I’d post before it went out again. So far it really doesn’t seem bad here: very windy but no serious storming going on.

The kids were excited at the power going out: They promptly attacked the hurricane supplies for the large stock of ready-made food: Slim Jims! Granola bars! Individual cups of peanut butter!

I have no clue why individual cups of peanut butter are so vastly more exciting than the huge jar we have in the pantry, but it’s fine. We’ll replace them when the storm blows over. ;-)

ETA: Well, there has been a tornado in my county now. Fifty-one homes damaged. :P We’ll see how it all goes. Folks seem to be dreading the backside winds most of all, and we won’t get them till tomorrow morning. For now, we’re under a tornado warning till 5 pm.

Glad it doesn’t sound too bad and Fay appears to have lost strength quickly.

Do the individual cups of peanut butter come with individual bars of chocolate? If so, that would move them to the top of my list.

Stay dry, and hope the power stays on.

Unfortunately, it has actually strengthened over land, according to the latest forecast. Its winds are “conservatively” (according to the NHS) at 64 mph right now. We really aren’t feeling that here yet, though. I mainly hope to avoid the tornadoes. :-)

Right now they are forecasting a Category 1 hurricane for us here in Jacksonville. When I first moved to Jacksonville, several people told me that we would never be hit by a hurricane.

    Bah.

I hope you get through it without any damage. I’ve been through a few and as long is there is no damage the excitement is kind of fun but … they must always be treated with respect. If the winds aren’t too bad, a short walk outside can actually be an interesting experience, but don’t try it if things are really bad and things are blowing around. You could be hit by something. The news casters reporting outside when the winds are 90 mph and you see things blowing by are crazy.

Is the closet near the bathroom? The pipes in the walls near a bathroom make that area of a house much safer.

    Good luck.

Good luck, Aimee! I hope you come through it with no damage there.

The closet is off the bathroom, John. We have cinder-block walls, though, so I feel fairly safe regardless, so long as we don’t lose the roof. ;-)
