Mini laptop article/review

I know a lot of you like the mini laptops, or netbooks, for writing, and PC World has a nice article about the various ones available now. You might like to check it out. (I’ve been wanting to get an MSI Wind for my nephew but am on the verge of giving up, as the launch has been delayed so much and orders are backed up.)

I have an Eee and I love it. The small screen can be a little annoying, and I wish the keyboard was slightly differently arranged, but I can type on it, it’s superbly mobile, it has wireless, and it takes the same cards my camera does, which means that I can download pictures, zip them up, and mail them to my gmail account.

I love that it’s a fully fledged computer *but* I don’t feel encumbered lugging it around, and because it was relatively cheap, I am not paranoid about damaging it or losing it.

The only thing I’d wish for is better battery life. Then again, three hours of computer use is as much as I want to do on holiday at any one time.

If you wait until September, Dell is releasing their own “netbook” which will allow you to customize all of these features the way you want them, instead of looking for the one brand that matches what you’re looking for. If I didn’t already have (and love) the Eee PC 701, I would be considering the Dell.
