Updating while I have power…

We lost power for half an hour a bit ago, so I thought I’d post before it went out again. So far it really doesn’t seem bad here: very windy but no serious storming going on.
The kids were excited at the power going out: They promptly attacked the hurricane supplies for the large stock of [...]

Getting gusty

The wind is picking up here. It isn’t bad yet, but we’re supposed to have sustained winds of about 50 mph by 6, according to Florida Today. There’s a live stream beside that article from Cocoa Beach, just fifteen minutes from us, if you want to keep an eye on what things might look like [...]

Fay

At this point, it looks like Fay will come right over the top of us (we’re that little bump in the middle of Florida’s east coast–Merritt Island) sometime in the middle of the night tonight (Wednesday) with 40 mph winds, then run into the Atlantic and curve into Florida again.
I’m not sure we’ve been at [...]

A squall’s a-comin’

Blaine just started fourth grade today and loves it, but tomorrow the schools will be closed due to Fay.
We’re in the middle of Florida’s east coast; it won’t hit this side, but it does look like it might travel over.
We’re well situated with supplies here, and if an evacuation notice is sent out, we [...]

Chose a pic

I’ve updated my “About Me” page with the “Tarzanna” pic that so many of you preferred. (Actually, I think more people liked the first pic, but they weren’t quite so vociferous about it. ;-))
I may change it later; I haven’t decided. But that picture is fun.

Book Buzz

I came across a reference to my copyediting blog while doing a Google book search today. It’s recommended as a resource in Copyediting and Proofreading for Dummies, and the author has this to say:
Deanna Hoak is an award-winning freelance copyeditor specializing in fantasy and science fiction. Plus, she’s a hoot. Witty and brilliant, an invaluable [...]

Personal DNA

Here are my results for one of the personality memes going around:

My personalDNA Report
It’s interesting because I’ve been working on a post about introversion versus extroversion, but I’ll get to that another time. The results are probably pretty accurate for me, though I suspect those of you who know me only from cons don’t see [...]

Damn, I’m behind on blogging.
LaunchPad and WorldCon were invigorating and exhausting at the same time. I have so many amazing and brilliant and accomplished friends (including some new ones now), and I left the con feeling incredibly energized. You may see my blogging increase over the next few weeks as I organize my mind [...]

Making old friends new

I’m leaving for the glorious LaunchPad today and am excited but have been a bit glum over being away from my kiddos for an entire twelve days. I will miss them!
But I got a call this morning from Kathy Gear, and she and Michael will be at WorldCon! I’ve been editing the Gears for years [...]

Denver WorldCon schedule

Hey, all! I’ll be leaving for LaunchPad on Wednesday and then hope to see some of you at WorldCon!
Here’s my official schedule:

Launch Pad: Astronomy for Writers Wed [...]
