Has anyone else with a WordPress blog been suddenly flooded with attempts at comment spam? I’ve gotten more today than I’ve had the entire time I’ve had this blog.
(And yes, this is why I ask for an e-mail address [I don’t do anything with it] and why I moderate the first comment you make; it doesn’t eliminate the spam completely, but it surely has to help.)
I had that happen, but installed the Akismet plug-in which is wonderfully effective at spotting spam comments. They’ve released an new WordPress version which has Akismet installed, you just have to activate it.
Heh. I’ve been thinking about moving my blog to my website from Livejournal, and I came here to ask you which blog tool you use. Looks like WordPress. How did you move entries from LJ?

Mentalwasteland: I used LJ Archive, which absolutely rocked. It was incredibly easy to transfer the entries.
I have that at my WordPress blog, too. It peaks for one or two days, and then drops down to ‘normal’ level again. I also have the Akismet filter installed which catches 98% of the spampostings.
LJ Archive truly rocks, thank you for recommending it. May I ask how you get your WordPress posts posted to LJ as well? It is a plugin, right?
I have tested two but neither of them worked as I wanted them to work.
Angelhunter: I use LiveJournal Crossposter. It seems to work very well.
Wow. I activated that Akismet filter last night before I went to bed, and it does rock. It caught 28 spam comments overnight. :-P
Yep, the new wordpress upgrades helped me a lot with the spam that has been driving me nuts recently.

You might also like “Subscribe to Comments” which lets people get notifications if someone has commented on a thread they’ve commented on.
