It’s pretty common for editors to buy me drinks or meals at cons, and there was one particular set of editors for a while with whom I never had to pay for a thing at a con. (They were also wonderful about inviting me to dinners with the authors of books I’d copyedited, which I thought was very thoughtful.)
So the job does have some perks that way. Pyr, though, has sent me a copy of every single book I’ve copyedited, along with a note that I can purchase more at a contributor discount if I so choose. That’s pretty nice, too. :-)

I have a journal editor who sends me expensive chocolates. Other than that, it’s pretty much commas, aggro, network service interruptions, and all the free books on obscure topics* I can carry.
